In 2001, my employer was being sold, making that year one of continuous turmoil and uncertainty. As the HR leader, I attempted to lessen the distractions of the sale by finding and implementing employee engagement programs to sustain our unique culture and retain our talented employees. A colleague suggested I read the book First, Break All the Rules: What the World’s Greatest Managers Do Differently. Following that book, I was immediately turned on to Now, Discover Your Strengths: The revolutionary Gallup program that shows you how to develop your unique talents and strengths. It was Now, Discover Your Strengths where I discovered the Clifton StrengthsFinder® assessment.

Led by Donald O. Clifton, the Father of Strengths-based Psychology, Gallup offered a revolutionary tool and programs to help people identify their talents; develop them into strengths; and enjoy consistent, near-perfect performance. Gallup researchers studied human behavior and strengths for decades. They found that when people are encouraged to use their talents to pursue their goals that individual engagement, well-being and organizational performance improved. I was hooked!

Fast forward many years. After stepping away from a long career in corporate Human Resources and Talent Management, I decided to start Buttonwood Coaching to focus on work I felt called to do but rarely did when working for someone else. Today, I get infinite rewards and energy as a Career Coach using my Gallup Global Strengths Coach certification and the CliftonStrengths® assessment.
